Harvest in full swing

For the next couple of weeks it is going to be a mad dash around here as I start pulling in this years crops. So far the beans and tomatoes have been my main focus but yesterday and today I have spent with the apples. The trees are heavy with them and they are ready to go. Tonight I put up my first batch of Apple Butter. Dad doesn't care for Apple Butter so I told him that it was spiced applesauce and gave him a taste of it. He really enjoyed it. SO now comes the dilemma- do I tell him that it is really Apple Butter or do I just let him enjoy it as Applesauce? I originally thought that the apples off this first tree might make good pies ect. but after watching them steam for just 10 minutes they turned to mush and so now I believe that they are meant for Applesauce/ Apple Butter. Either way- they will be good! I gave a bunch of them to my sisters to enjoy as well and they were excited to get them. I hope that they won't be disappointed with them. I will have to let Steve and Diane as well as Melinda know that they won't make good baking apples. Hopefully some of those from the other trees will be good for baking.
I noticed tonight that the grapes are nearing the ripe stage. I am not going to have much time to get the Apples all processed. This morning I moved my thornless Blackberry plants to the front of the property. I hope that they will take off and do real well out there. I know that at least they will be safe from the chickens.

It's been a long day and I feel good about all that I have accomplished. Bed will feel heavenly tonight!

  1. I say just keep the secret - it's spiced applesauce. Good luck with the harvest!
