I woke up to the sound of thunder this morning and it has been rumbling ever since then. It has brought rain with it this time but It is too dark yet to read the rain gauge. Hopefully it will at least give us an inch of rain before it is over. It has been way too dry this year and the crops are showing the signs of drought. The power bill has been steep this summer because of all the irrigating I've had to do to keep everything from drying out.
Yesterday, as I prepared the flower bed for the Iris bulb, the tiller formed a dust cloud as it tore into the parched ground. I added a large quantity of peat moss to the soil to help it retain moisture. I worked all afternoon and well into the evening to get the Iris planted and I still have a large quantity to get planted. I am going to give a bunch of them away as I certainly do not need that many plants. I have 3 - 40 ft. rows planted already. I put them on the West side of the shop and I am not sure how well they are going to do in that location since they will not be receiving a full day of sun but hopefully they will be happy there anyway. I look forward to seeing them in bloom again in the spring! Thank Heaven for the rain! I don't have to water everything today and that is another blessing as I have many things on my plate to accomplish before heading off to work.
Must go for now!
Have a great day!

We're getting rain this morning, too, and I love it! I love knowing that everything is getting the water it so desperately needs!
